The Trauma Is The Wound
Trauma doesn’t need to live inside you forever, but we’ve been conditioned to repress our natural instinct for emotional release.
To speak more accurately, it’s likely that you’re caught in the unconscious habit of mentalising the majority of your negative experiences because you were discouraged from feeling any form of negative emotion during your childhood.
If you want to experience greater emotional resilience, then it’s time to embrace natural trauma release mechanisms which can include breathing, shaking, jumping and screaming - which are all completely logical and healing gestures when done safely and in secure environments under the right circumstances.
Trauma is not just a psychological issue, but a physical one too.
The body stores memories of traumatic experiences, and these memories can be accessed and processed through somatic therapies, which are thankfully gaining increasing popularity in our post-pandemic society after enough people were confronted with the unfortunate anxiety-spikes associated with disembodied living.
My personal approach to somatic trauma healing is based on the idea that the body has an innate capacity to heal itself.
By working with the body and its sensations, rather than just focusing on thoughts and emotions, we can learn to stop mentalising our emotions and instead release the negative charge as we move towards states of greater wholeness and wellbeing.
Through somatic therapy, and moderated mentalisation, you can move towards a more vibrant and fulfilling life.
Whether you are a trauma survivor yourself, or simply interested in learning more about this important topic, somatic therapy is a must-study for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of personal healing.
