Everything Strengthened, Nothing Diminished.
You need a stronger ego, not ego death. Your immature ego is fickle and incoherent, but the truly mature, truly authentic, truly adult ego is a gift of great significance.
I’ll say it simply, in three sentences.
The mature ego is an integrating force: it allows you to weave the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of your identity into a single, unified whole.
The mature ego is a synthesising force: it allows you to experience a coherent version of reality by structuring your values, beliefs and perceptions.
Ultimately, the mature ego is what defines the difference between feeling whole and feeling fragmented in your full-spectrum, self identity.
Never forget that your humanity is beautiful, and you shouldn't attempt to escape what makes you human - don’t attempt to bypass your ego while chasing the path of self transcendence.
Dismissing your ego-nature makes you susceptible to being carelessly carried away with novel spiritual experiences or temporary egoless states which easily results in paranoid tendencies and delusional thinking.
I'm not saying that all spiritual people are delusional because I likewise appreciate the allure of the mystical, but permanent self-transcendence cannot be the ultimate aspiration for spiritual growth at this time in your life.
Many people are caught in the unfortunate belief that they can eventually exist in a permanently enlightened state of consciousness, but this kind of thinking is fundamentally inflated.
Spiritual bypassing and spiritual grandiosity is the common result of chasing ego death, and this unconscious path can be particularly enchanting for people with dissociative tendencies and I know because I’ve been there myself.
Ascending into the heavens isn't enlightenment: it's a slippery slope towards fragmentation and spiritual grandiosity unless you have a firm rooting in everyday reality.
Inflated spiritual beliefs cannot sustain the background pressure of unresolved childhood trauma and character inconsistencies in your everyday life.
You’re taking all of yourself on the journey ahead: all parts; all burdens; all of you is welcome, and all of you will be included.
If you’re serious about self-realisation and the steady progression of self-transcendence over multiple decades, then you would be wise to focus on ‘ego development’ rather than ‘spiritual development’.
The stronger your ego, the healthier your sense of self, the greater the opportunity for your indwelling soul.
Everything strengthened, nothing diminished.
Your ego is the ground you build upon.
